Hospital price transparency
Who files complaints, and how
CMS can evaluate hospital price transparency complaints from individuals or entities. A complaint is one monitoring input alongside outside analyses and CMS audits; it is not itself a final determination that a hospital has violated the rule.
CMS's hospital price transparency contact page provides the complaint route for concerns that required hospital information is not posted online. Use that HPT route rather than assume every CMS billing or insurance complaint form serves the same purpose. The page separately provides an address for general HPT questions.
Useful complaint evidence identifies the hospital and location, the public page or file URL, the date checked, and what could or could not be accessed. Keep the observation distinct from a legal conclusion. These are recommended evidence practices, not a claim that every field is mandatory on the current complaint form. Do not include patient records merely to describe an inaccessible public file.
For a hospital receiving a notice, treat the CMS notice as the response source. The FAQ says an authorized official can send detailed written questions about warning or CAP deficiencies to HPTCompliance@cms.hhs.gov and recommends consulting hospital counsel or compliance officials. Filing a complaint does not guarantee a particular CMS action or response time.
